Saving water for drought seasons have been one of the major concerns in Australia. However, this has been common nowadays, even in places that do not at all experience water scarcity. They just do it in order to save money and cut off even a little bit from paying water bills. Since water is one of the most vital natural resources that man, animals and plants cannot live without, people have placed a great emphasis on conserving water to prepare for future water problems that may occur anytime due to global warming.

Water conservation has continued to be the main solution for water scarcity that gave people the idea of using water tanks and other water storage containers to store water for future needs. Obviously, these tanks are used mainly to store free water, which is rainwater, to be used for extra activities like gardening, watering the lawns and yards, cleaning cars, filling up home pools or even kid’s paddling pools, flushing the toilet, and even sometimes washing clothes. With them, people have found a way to never deprive themselves in using water for their extra needs and anytime, as much as they want. This has been an issue in countries like Australia where water restrictions are promulgated because of the excessive dry season that they experience over there.

Well, these tanks come in varieties and are even made with different materials. The most common type is those steel tanks which are placed outside the homes to directly fetch water and store it. However, these types of tanks have downsides with regards to hygienic issues; and that is the main reason that led manufacturers to make use of poly tanks instead in storing and keeping rainwater. The innovation was implemented to promote hygienic and anti-corrosive way of saving water which can save you more money compared to having steel tanks at home.

Poly water tanks are mainly composed of plastic and fiber. And with that, it is obviously one way of getting rid of rust accumulation as time goes by when the water storage system becomes older. Aside from steel tanks, there were also tanks made of concrete cements which are more questionable to storing clean water supply. Well, rainwater is not as clean as the provided city water supply; however, since it is free and comes directly from the sky, we would want it to be kept without the combination of grimes and other unwanted materials which are from the containers themselves. We would want it to be kept clean as much as we can because some people even resort to using rainwater for drinking especially if there are water interruptions and worst water inadequacy conditions. But of course, directly drinking rainwater is very much not advisable. Proper purification and distillation process should be observed.

The advantages of polymer coated tanks are their being light weight compared to steel tanks, next is their anti-corrosive and rust-free property, and third is their ability to store almost anything without having to worry about cleanliness issue. The only flaw of poly water tank is its disability to store harsh acids that may cause for it to melt. Well, steel tanks cannot store harsh chemicals as well, depending on the chemical’s acidity level; but concrete water tanks can.

Actually, water tanks come in different sizes. There are large, medium, and even small water tanks are available to save you space at home. It all depends on your needs, so you do not have to worry of having narrow spaces in your area. There are even water tanks that are installed underground to save you more space, but would require much more of a professional help in installation.

So to conclude, water tanks have shown great compliance in solving water inadequacy problems through time. Their usefulness has been widely experienced in places where water is not enough, and their worth has been recognized worldwide. It truly does not matter if you choose any type of water tank that you like; what is important is to have a cleaning schedule for the tank to avoid water contamination.

Undeniably, gardening can indeed be a very enjoyable hobby and pastime especially if you are just staying in the house. Most women love to garden and take care of varieties of flowers and plants because they believe they make their homes much lively and livable to look at. With all the colors and nice aroma from flowering plants that may be in your backyard or front yard, or sometimes surrounding your home, a garden can pass out all the stress away.

However, in places where drought is experienced, gardening can somehow be considered an excessive activity because of the water conservation measures that these places practice. Most people then feel like they are being deprived from the freedom to use water as much as they want and from the privilege to own a garden. Nevertheless, alternative measures were already set out especially in places like Australia. What they have as an option to resolve the water issues is the proposition to install or own water tanks in every household.

Like people, plants need water to live. And ample amount of water each day is necessary in order to keep one’s garden look fresh and beautiful. Now if a place lacks a bountiful amount of water supply, the idea of gardening is impractical. So the best option is to use rainwater as a surrogate to using clean city water to lavishly drench the garden.

Commonly, rainwater tanks come as the very foremost option to storing rainwater. It is in fact the perfect way for you to maintain a green garden without compromising the usage of city water. To add, an irrigation system is what you will need to maintain a green garden. That will allow you to save water from watering your gardens daily. But of course, you must first identify two things – how much water your garden needs and how much water you will be able to get from the rain. The latter can be determined through some local rainfall tables which are available mostly online from weather websites.

Basically, the best size of water tank to be used are those large water tanks since they can accommodate bigger amount of water enough or even more than enough to sustain the family’s water needs especially during drought season. These can be placed outside the house but would require a bigger space for installation. It may cost more too but eventually you will realize the great benefits it could give you and your family especially with regards to financial matters.

As for rainwater benefits to be used for gardening, they are more advisable than using tap water for watering the plants since city water already contains minerals and chemicals that are used to purify the water for drinking purposes. These said chemicals are helpful in treating unwanted bacteria, strange odor and colors that may harm every people’s health. On the other hand, rainwater is all natural, aside from the chemicals it carries like oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. It does not harm plants at all and in fact can be a healthy alternative for them.

Rain, as we all know, is free; so the best way to save our water? Use it! Proper distillation and purification purposes though are advised if you are planning to take in rainwater in your other household water needs like drinking.
